Stephen Grove is the Director of Growth at the Movement Law Lab. In that role, he creates the context for the organization, teams, and individuals to thrive and do their best work. Before MLL, for 14 years, he was an attorney and deputy director with the Ohio Justice & Policy Center. His advocacy work culminated in being part of the Ohio statewide Issue 1 campaign leadership in 2018. In deep partnership with community organizers, he also helped create Fair Hiring (“ban the box”) policies for public-sector employment in 13 cities and counties, and Ohio state government. He drafted, and co-led the advocacy effort for, several more pieces of state legislation that removed legal barriers for job seekers with criminal records. He also spent time running OJPC’s Cincinnati-based outreach legal clinics serving people with criminal records. Also previously, Stephen was the Strategy Director for the Ohio Transformation Fund (OTF). There, he cultivated the statewide field of justice-transformation advocates through convenings, trainings, and support to grantees of the fund and others. Stephen is a licensed attorney and lives in upstate New York with his family.
